Los Angeles, Mar 13 (efe-epa).- Contenders for the fifth edition of the Premios Platino were anxiously waiting the last few hours before hearing the final nominations for the prestigious Ibero-American cinema awards, which are scheduled to be announced later on Tuesday.

"A Fantastic Woman," directed by Chilean Sebastián Lelio and starring Daniela Vega, recently won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and is now expected to lead nominations for the Platinos, which are to be awarded on Apr. 29 at the Teatro Gran Tlachco in Mexico.

Lelio's work and "Zama," by Argentina's Lucrecia Martel, are the two films that received the most mentions when the 20-movie long lists for each category were announced in Feb. at a ceremony in Mexico City.

Though the final nominations are not to be known until later on Tuesday, films that have already been triumphant at other award shows, such as Isabel Coixet's Goya-winning "The Bookshop," are expected to focus of attention.

Directors, actors and screenwriters are hoping their films will be the first to make it into the "Big Five," which refers to films that have won the Best Film, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay awards, a feat that only Damian Szifron's "Wild Tales" has come close to, winning four of the five categories.

This year's edition will for the first time include actors and actresses from mini-series and television series.

Expected to lead nominations in those categories were Mexico's Luis Gerardo Méndez from "Club de Cuervos" and Spaniard Blanca Suárez from "Cable Girls."

The nomination ceremony for this year's edition of the Premios Platino, which were first held on Apr. 4, 2014, is scheduled to take place at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood at 6 pm GMT (10 am local time) on Tuesday.
